Bellaire, TX Air Conditioner & Heater Services

History

Unlike some of the surrounding communities, Bellaire wasn’t founded until the early 20th century. Initially conceived as an early planned community and truck farm center for the Houston area, Bellaire’s first plots were developed by the wealthy owner of the nearby Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Although the city had grown considerably by World War II, its growth was impeded by the city of Houston’s annexation of the lands that surrounded it. The rapid development of the area’s highway system contributed to breakneck population growth during the 1950s and 60s. Despite its location in a region that values unchecked growth, the city recently earned plaudits for converting its last tract of open space into a community center and park.

Geography

Bellaire is located in the south-central portion of Harris County. Except for small borders with the cities of West University Place and Southside Place, it’s completely surrounded by Houston. Since most of Bellaire’s housing was built during the 1950s and 60s, it boasts a relatively uniform “look” that’s characterized by a regular street grid, small lots and ample green space. Major transportation thoroughfares include Interstates 610 and 69. The city’s southern border approaches Bray’s Bayou, one of the Houston area’s best-known water features.

Population and Demographics

Bellaire’s population sits just shy of 20,000 within an area of 3.6 square miles. Most of the city’s residents are middle class homeowners who work in downtown Houston or the business parks the line the nearby interstates. Thanks to a strong local school system, Bellaire is quite popular with growing families. Recent easing of restrictive zoning rules may lead to additional development within the city’s borders. This has the potential to reduce rents even further and create a favorable environment for empty-nesters and single professionals to purchase homes here.

Things to Do in Bellaire, Texas

Bellaire has a number of noteworthy attractions. Although it’s no longer a practical means of transit, the Bellaire Toonerville Trolley continues to delight young visitors and train buffs. Around the holiday season, the city’s regionally famous “Snow in the Park” celebration creates a blanket of artificial snow that heightens the Christmas spirit. For kids and nature buffs, the Hana and Arthur Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center offers a range of interpretive exhibits and activities. Bray’s Bayou Trail runs parallel to the popular body of water for more than 13 miles. It can accommodate joggers, bicyclists and pet owners.

Climate and Weather

Bellaire’s climate is characterized by hot, humid summers, wet transitional seasons and mild winters. Although every month of the year experiences ample rainfall, the late summer months tend to be particularly wet. This is due to an annual influx of tropical moisture that can spawn tropical storms and even hurricanes. Fortunately, such events are relatively rare. During the transitional seasons, warm, sunny periods alternate with showery, unsettled days. Although frosts are somewhat common, frozen precipitation is quite rare.
