Katy, TX Air Conditioner & Heater Services
History
Once a winter hunting ground for members of the Karankawa tribe, Katy welcomed its first permanent settlers during the early 1870s. Thanks to the fertile, well-watered prairies that surrounded it, Katy quickly grew into an agricultural center that produced rice, corn, dairy products and other important items. During the early 20th century, the discovery of ample oil reserves in the surrounding region sparked the Texas oil boom and created tremendous opportunity for local residents. By the end of the century, Katy had grown into a major exurb of Houston. It continues to grow at a rapid clip to this day.
Geography
Population and Demographics
Katy’s population currently sits at about 15,000. As the Houston area continues to expand westward, this figure looks likely to grow appreciably before the coming Census count. As an exurban community that enjoys close ties to many Houston suburbs, Katy has a diverse mix of inhabitants. Many locals continue to work in the native energy industry, but growing numbers find employment with ancillary service providers in the finance, legal and medical industries. Although the area is fairly affluent, low land costs make homeownership a reality for folks from many walks of life.
